A student at a George elementary school in the Western Cape tested positive for the new coronavirus known as Covid-19.
George South Primary School has confirmed in a statement that a gr. 7 pupils at this school were placed at home in isolation after the child tested positive for the virus.
According to the statement, the learner is currently receiving medical treatment and the child’s condition is considered stable at this stage.
The principal, Sas du Plessis, said in the statement that a list had already been drawn up of all teachers and schoolmates with whom the learner may have been in close contact. These people are contacted and asked to isolate themselves.
Du Plessis assured the school community that if the school or health department did not contact them, no one was in danger. However, a circular was sent to all gr. 7 parents sent to pay attention to any viral symptoms.
“This is not a time for panic and it is important to keep you and your family as safe as possible…. The safety of our learners remains our priority, ”the statement says.
