One person was killed and three others seriously injured when construction collapsed near the Jakaranda Center in Rietfontein, Pretoria. Construction workers were busy renovating the structure just before noon on Thursday when it suddenly gave way.
Xander Loubser, a spokesman for Best Care Ambulance Services, says paramedics, firefighters, and police are currently at the scene.
“We are not yet sure what exactly happened, but it sounds to me that they threw a cement floor when the structure suddenly collapsed,” says Loubser.
He says about four construction workers were buried under the rubble when the structure fell on them. “One of the construction workers is dead. The other three were seriously injured and paramedics are currently treating them, “said Loubser.
Loubser says they are in the process of determining if any more people have been injured. Southafrica-news will announce more news of the incident as it becomes available.
