Four police officers remain in custody after appearing in Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Friday on charges of extortion and corruption.
Capt. Ndivhuwo Mulamu, spokesman for the Priority Crime Investigation Directorate (the Falcons), said ao. Frans Nono Manyelo (52), sergeant. Fihlang Junior Molefe (47), const. Matlhalela Lucas Ramalobela, 35, and Lucas Malwela, 34, surrendered to the Hawks on Monday.
“The complaints were reported to the Falcons in August 2019 for investigation. The suspects were apparently on duty when they searched the complainant’s vehicle and forced him to take them to his home in Brackenhurst, south of Johannesburg, ”Mulamu explained. “Upon their arrival, the man’s house was searched and they allegedly demanded an amount of R200 000 to prevent the man from being arrested. They escorted him to a Shell gas station on the M2 where he was forced to withdraw cash. “
The suspects are part of Krugersdorp’s lightning patrol and Ekurhuleni-Central’s trio task team.
“The case was postponed until Monday for a formal application for bail and further investigation.”
