A KwaZulu-Natal police officer died on Friday night when at least two men awaited him at his home and fired at him.
Col. National Police spokeswoman Brenda Muridili said Const. Xolani Zulu, 32, arrived at his home in KwaNyuswa at about 19:30 yesterday. He was not on duty.
“The suspects, with what looked like a gun and a handgun, fired at the constable without warning. He died on the scene, ”she said.
Zulu, a married father with three young children, was attached to the KwaNdengezi police station and has been a police officer for eight years.
Genl. National Police Chief Khehla Sitole expressed his sympathy with Zulu’s family and ordered that the police’s 72-hour activation plan be put in place to track down his killers. According to this plan, resources such as crime intelligence, forensic services and the assistance of the Falcons, for example, are called in.
Police have called on anyone with information about the incident to call Stop Crime on 08600 10111.
